About the show

Sail into unmarked waters in a nautical production that begins in the heart of a storm, follows determined wayfinders across a hostile sea, and finishes with the excitement of discovery at last. Includes Vaughan Williams’ "A Sea Symphony", the folk tune "Wayfaring Stranger", and music from Avatar: The Way of Water.

  • Out of the Tempest - after drawing the audience in with the optional pre-show, the show starts off in the midst of a tempest, with a frenetic, powerful full ensemble hit.
  • Across the Sea - using snippets from Vaughan Williams' "A Sea Symphony", this movement includes features for woodwinds, brass, and a small ensemble (variable instrumentation available).
  • Hymn of the Wayfarers - the tune "Wayfaring Stranger" becomes a stirring centerpiece, performed by a horn soloist (or another instrument of your choice) and building to a powerful climax.
  • New Shores - the final discovery sequence uses James Horner’s Becoming One With Neytiri from the Avatar soundtrack. The triumphant conclusion includes a featured trio of french horns in concert with the full ensemble. Optionally, the horn parts can be played within the main mellophone/trumpet parts instead.

Alternate themes: North Star, Map & Compass, Through the Tempest

Originally commissioned by the Homestead High School Band - Jordan Cain, director.
