About the show

Step into the Garden of Eden, a paradise of untouched beauty where a single forbidden choice changes everything. Uses a unique arrangement of Alanis Morissette's "Uninvited" to represent temptation. Pair with visual imagery of the garden, the apple, and the serpent for maximum effect. Also features original music by Alex Yoder.

  • Paradise - the show begins in the untouched, luminous garden. A gentle soloist (flexible instrumentation) floats above soft, flowing textures giving the color guard ample room for choreography. The music then opens into an energetic opener full of curiosity and wonder.
  • Forbidden Fruit - a slithering arrangement of Alanis Morissette's "Uninvited" introduces the idea of temptation. Darker colors appear in the music and on the field as the image of the apple and the presence of the Serpent begin to draw focus.
  • Banished - a sudden, heavy shift marks the breaking of the garden's harmony. Themes from Paradise are shattered and reharmonized in a dramatic, driving section that captures the shock of exile.
  • After Eden - the final coda softens into a calm, elevated soundscape (with soloist) that suggests an existence beyond the garden. The ending feels reflective and luminous, as if the story continues just past the edge of Eden.

Alternate themes:Forbidden Garden, Paradise Lost

Originally commissioned by the Eastern High School Band - Andrew Sloniker, director.
