About the show

Tell the tale of a fantasy kingdom living under the shadow of a monstrous dragon. This show takes place in three parts: the dragon's attack, rebuilding and the emergence of heroes, and the final clash where the foul beast is ultimately defeated. Features original music that blends dark fantasy, clashing battle themes, and heroic fanfares.

  • Rain of Fire - the show opens with scene setting material depicting an ancient realm at peace. That calm is broken as the dragon appears, and the music shifts ominously as the kingdom is burned to the ground.
  • Heroes Arise - out of the smoke and wreckage, a more hopeful theme begins to form. A soloist introduces the heroes who refuse to give in, and the ensemble gradually grows that idea into a broad, soaring statement that suggests courage, unity, and a plan to fight back.
  • Vengeance - the final section sends the heroes to confront the dragon. Rhythmic intensity and sharp impacts push the action forward as the battle unfolds. Earlier themes return in stronger, more confident form, leading to a decisive moment where the beast is defeated and the show ends in a bold, celebratory fanfare.

Alternate themes: Knights and Dragons, Fantasy Quest, Fire and Steel

Originally commissioned by the Jay County High School Band - Charles Roesch, director.
